Nominator's project description

Professor Malcolm D. Ingram is a leading authority in glass science. He has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of the glassy state, often disclosing possibilities for technical applications. His experimental and theoretical work concerns the structure and dynamics of glass, and especially, the phenomenon of ion transport. He has developed important concepts describing ion transport in terms of interactions and correlations. During his stay in Germany he and his hosts will try to solve the long-standing problem of the mixed alkali effect in a holistic approach, on the basis of targeted experiments.
